Welcome to the u10s, 2009-10 season
As we draw to the end of what has been, apart from the rare glint of light that the Ashes gave us, a rather wet summer thoughts turn to the beginning of another Rugby Season. This year we introduce contested scrums and line-outs to our ever evolving contact rugby repertoire this is another exciting step in the development of the game and of the children and one which should enable new talents to shine through.
The U10 age-group is very proud of the friendly atmosphere that has been developed over the years amongst both the children and the parents and although many of the children have been together for a while we are always very keen to welcome new members into the age-group.
Continuing our success in previous seasons we have now been running 4 teams for more than a year. All the teams have had their individual successes which have highlighted the huge strength in depth we have across the age group. We had an extremely enjoyable first Tour where all teams were imperious and which we would encourage even more to attend this season. Each Team have had Festivals wins, be it the Plate or the overall Cup. There were a number of highlights of the season, the D Team's first contact Festival win at Windsor and to finish the season the A team were crowned Surrey Champions - a truly remarkable achievement.
The success of all the teams is down to the tireless work put in by the coaching team as well as the growing band of referees, pitch-side helpers, first aiders, social co-ordinator and administration / registration co-ordinator. There is plenty for everyone to do and volunteers are actively sought for roles both on and off the pitch please let me know if you would like to get involved..
All of the coaching is based on RFU guidelines and principles in accordance with the Continuum and whilst the children, obviously, enjoy the experience of winning it is the 'Spirit of Rugby' and their long term development as players that we are looking to concentrate on and the coaching team is committed that each child, regardless of their individual ability, thoroughly enjoys their Sundays at Chobham. We endeavour to provide a safe environment for the children to enjoy their Rugby, to promote a team ethos and that each child will contribute and form an important role developing their individual strengths.
A new season brings new opportunities and we're looking forward to them all. Giles Penfold
