Welcome to the U9s – 2009-2010 Season

And so begins a new season with fresh challenges aplenty. As we head for our first season of ‘proper’ rugby (ie contact) we find ourselves tearing up the old rule book and discarding those awful tags and belts. No more contentious “he took 5 paces after he was tagged” – you’re either standing or you’re not.

With these new laws, as we have to call them, comes an educational dilemma. Sure, the players (and the coaches!) need to be briefed on what is and isn’t legal, as much of what they have become accustomed to is no longer relevant. There is also the issue of educating the parents (non -playing and so long ago that you might as well not have played) about what to expect and the reorganisation of squads to take account of the new brand of rugby.

In March next year we will also have the opportunity to join the Minis Tour, which this year goes to Dorset. The U10s who went for the first time last year seemed to have a great time and I hope that lots of you will join this Annual pilgrimage. Full details can be found on the
the Minis Tour page, which will be updated as more information becomes available. .

Whilst there are a number of familiar faces returning again this year, it would be great to see a clutch of new arrivals, both those who are encountering rugby for the first time or those who are looking to supplement some experience gained at school or other clubs. At Chobham the emphasis is on enjoyment of the players and an appreciation of team spirit and a rugby ethos. Of course winning in itself is an enjoyable experience, but if you achieve fundamental pleasure then success very often comes as a by product.

We train every Sunday morning from 10 to 12 o’clock except when Festivals or fixtures require us to relocate. You can find details of all our seasons fixtures here.

All new players are welcome to join us, whether they have experience of rugby or not. If you want more information about how to join us, please come down on a Sunday morning and chat to any of the coaches or myself, or alternatively you can contact me by e-mail on my link below.
